The more of your time on earth
you can spend doing things that will help you get what you really
want out of life, the happier you will feel every day; the more
time you have to spend doing things that are trivial or unimportant,
the more miserable you will feel. But you can't do everything you
want. You can't please everyone. You have to make choices.
Take some time to identify
what's truly important to you. Take a pencil and paper and list
ten things that you feel make living worthwhile. Now rank them in
order of importance. Put it aside for a few weeks and make a new
list. Compare the two lists, and don't be surprised by some changes.
Do this a few times, and you will learn what your core values and
goals are. Now try to arrange your life so that you spend some time
each day in an activity that moves you closer to your goals or allows
you to express your values. You will have to reduce the amount of
time you spend procrastinating or in time-wasting activities in
order to accomplish this. This will require effort on your part,
but it will pay off.
